Newborn Tips & Tricks
Please speak with your medical team and your baby’s pediatrician prior to implementing and of these options and considerations; we do hope these offer some added support to you and your new little one.
1) Sleep when the baby sleeps. It’s ok if you can’t catch up on chores or items around the house. Your health and wellbeing come first.
2) Do not worry about how your house looks. Simplify chores to the absolute must do. It’s ok if your house isn’t spotless. Right now is about bonding with your baby, resting, and recovering.
3) This may be a time to invest in paper plates and plastic (or bamboo) cutlery just for a short amount of time, reducing the number of dishes that need to be cleaned.
4) If you want to do something while the baby naps pick only one task per nap. Then allow yourself to rest. Pacing is key.
5) Have others around to help if you can. If you can’t have family or friends over to help, look into hiring a postpartum doula or a night nurse if financially feasible. Click here to learn more about postpartum doulas.
6) Have some diapers, wipes, baby clothing and blankets/ burp cloths in every room. Use puppy pee pads as a cheap diaper changing pad option for each room. See our Helpful Items page for suggestions of products to use to help bring items from room to room in addition to ways to make your baby station in each room.
