Guiding Principles
Our Primary Principles of Support
1) We see the individual first, not the illness.
2) We understand that chronic illnesses, including forms of dysautonomia like POTS, can be traumatic and may have unexpected environmental and situational triggers.
3) We aim to encourage use of healthy coping skills.
4) We find strength in sharing experiences.
5) We reject stigma and do not tolerate discrimination of any kind.
6) We do not judge anyone’s pain as less than our own.
7) We forgive ourselves and compassionately reject guilt.
8) We embrace humor as a healthy coping skill when needed.
9) We accept that we cannot solve all problems.
10) We hope for a better future in a realistic way.
11) We try our best to not lose hope.
Virtual Support Groups Purpose And Services
Our purpose is to provide mutual support from peers having similar life experiences.
We are not professionals.
Information and insight provided by group facilitators and participants do not represent therapeutic recommendations and are not a substitute for the advice provided by a medical or mental healthcare professional.
Our support groups will not serve as a platform for providing medical or mental health advice, but rather as a space where everyone feels heard, welcomed, understood, and safe.
Our goal is for our support groups to provide a space for participants to support each other as peers by sharing personal experiences and ideas.
Our support groups are not counseling or therapy groups for treating mental illness.
